There is also a splendid article in Private Eye, which goes into great detail on the background – how ministers decided to implement the NHS computer system without figuring out whether it was needed and whether it would work, and without consulting doctors – who would have alerted them to the confidentiality, safety and other problems if they’d been asked.

Unfortunately this article isn’t online but it runs to nine pages, and it’s well worth buying Private Eye just to get it
